BOARD DEVELOPMENT

Develop Effective Boards

Boards come together to help organizations succeed—yet sometimes they do either too much or too little. Having served on non-profit boards, we know what it takes for boards to support an organization. We help board members improve their effectiveness through assessments, trainings, conflict management, role clarification, facilitation, strategic planning, and coaching.

CASE STUDY

Westgate Housing

The Challenge

How to heal distrust between a “governance board” and a “tenants board” so that the organization could become more effective and sustainable?

The Story

We identified common interests on both boards and recommended that they merge to consolidate resources and jointly pursue their goals.

The Outcome

“One of the best investments we ever made was asking Greg Hessel to consult with our Board of Directors.  He was able connect with us, quickly assess our strengths and weaknesses, and heal divisions.  With his help, we were able make a plan and set goals that were attainable.  We, as a board, were regenerated and able to begin a process of moving forward that has gained momentum over time.  We’re looking forward to having him return for the next phase of our growth and development.” – Julie Maloof, President, Westgate Housing

“Greg’s careful work made the marriage of the two Westgate boards possible.  And the solution has worked well ever since.  I don’t remember what we paid him.  But no matter – his help was invaluable!”
