CASE STUDY

Assisting The Vermont Agency of Transportation with a Cultural Change

The Challenge

How could we support VTrans in building a culture that allowed them to recruit workers of all genders and ethnicities.

The Story

We helped the Agency define and manage its culture. Primarily, leaders focused on clarifying expectations, training managers in new skills, and holding them accountable to implementing those skills. Increasing accountability signaled to managers that the change was important. A detailed communication plan was also developed that specified key messaging for each stakeholder group, who would communicate with each stakeholder, and the means and frequency of the communication.

The Outcome

“Our goal was to institutionalize this initiative…. Thanks to Greg’s work, this initiative is widely viewed as a success and many of the tactics used over the past decade have become a part of our new culture.  What has struck me the most about Greg is his ability to connect with anybody. From the frontline maintenance workers to the Secretary of Transportation.”

“Our experience with Greg could not be more positive. Greg is a friendly, open-minded, smart man. He understands the nuances of organizational dynamics. He is intuitive and his perceptions can be trusted. He is quickly available to Senior Management to answer questions or plan. He provides thorough and timely written reports and feedback when indicated or requested. He understands the difficulties in implementing change on a grand scale in an organization, and he is able to be flexible in developing a successful roll out of change. Greg has been a real pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend him without reservations to any organization seeking support in change management or team building. If you would like to talk more about Greg’s skills and the work he has done with us please feel free to contact me.”
